OSP installer fails after redeployment

Solution Verified - Updated

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6.0 (RHEL-OSP)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 (RHEL)

Issue

  • After a number of redeployments using the OSP installer, the latest deployment stops at 37%. I was able to connect to the controller and the compute nodes, and it would appear that all of the services are there at least, but puppet is not running nor will it stay running on these hosts.

Resolution

Make sure that system registrations from previous deployment are manually removed before attempting new deployment.

Root Cause

Each time an environment is deployed using the OSP installer/Director, all of the compute and controller nodes are registered to This content is not included.Red Hat Subscription Management. Each registration will consume one of the free entitlements and will not reuse entitlement used for previous registration. Once all free entitlements are exhausted, registration would fail and, as a result, puppet will also fail due to failure to install packages required to set up controller/compute nodes.
