How to confirm infra nodes not included in subscription cost in OpenShift Cluster Manager?
Environment
- Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP)
- 4
- Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Manager (RHOCM)
Issue
- How to confirm infra nodes not included in subscription cost in OpenShift Cluster Manager?
- How to view subscription consumption in OpenShift Cluster Manager?
- Infra nodes have both labels
infraandworker. Are they excluded from the subscription cost?
Resolution
To check subscription consumption, visit This content is not included.OpenShift Cluster Manager. From the OpenShift web console, the navigation would be Administration -> Cluster Settings -> "OpenShift Cluster Manager" link.
Example of the information shown
For an example cluster with 3 control plane nodes, 3 infra nodes and 4 app nodes using 4vCPU hosts, the OpenShift Cluster Manager shows:
Control plane: 3
Compute: 7
Subscription obligation: 8 cores
The 8 cores mean 16vCPUs (vCPU means Hyper threading enabled, 1 core == 2vCPUs) and it is only for app nodes (so 4 * 4vCPUs = 16vCPUs = 8 cores).
Notes:
- The control plane nodes and infra nodes are not included in the subscription cost calculation.
- For the infra nodes to not require subscriptions, the kind of workloads allowed to run is limited as explained in the Root Cause section.
- The infra nodes requires the proper
infralabels as explained in OCM not reflecting infra nodes. For additional information about creating infra nodes in OpenShift 4, refer to infrastructure nodes in OpenShift 4.
Root Cause
For the infra nodes to not require subscriptions, the kind of workloads allowed to run is limited as explained in workloads allowed on infrastructure nodes without incurring extra subscription costs in OpenShift 4.
