Will the kmod-oracleasm packages be shipped with RHEL 8?

Environment

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL8)
• kmod-oracleasm
• kmod-redhat-oracleasm

Issue

• Will the kmod-oracleasm package be shipped with RHEL 8?
• What is the kmod-redhat-oracleasm package?

Resolution

• The kmod-redhat-oracleasm is now available from Red Hat for RHEL 8.3 onward from "This content is not included.Red Hat Customer Portal".

  • In RHEL6 and RHEL7, the package was kmod-oracleasm, but from RHEL8, it is provided as kmod-redhat-oracleasm package.
    • This content is not included.kmod-redhat-oracleasm-2.0.8-1.el8_3.x86_64

• Oracle has approved/certified Oracle 19c on RHEL8, and 19.8 on Oracle 19c will work on RHEL8. Red Hat has tested the asmlib kernel module on RHEL8 and its now available for 8.3 onward.

  • RHEL 8.3.0.z Errata: "RHEA-2020:5587"
  • RHEL 8.4.0.z Errata: "RHEA-2021:1646"
  • RHEL 8.5.0.z Errata: "RHBA-2021:4481"

• The companion Content from www.oracle.com is not included.oracleasmlib ⧉ and Content from public-yum.oracle.com is not included.oracleasm-support ⧉ RPM's are provided and supported by Oracle.

• At this time Oracle does not support the AFD (filter driver) for Oracle 19c on RHEL8.

• The availability of kmod-redhat-oracleasm was tracked via private "This content is not included.Bug 1827015 - kmod-oracleasm availability with RHEL8"*.

  • As the bug is private, please contact "Red Hat Support" for any questions relating to the availability and delivery of kmod-redhat-oracleasm for RHEL8.
